Abstract: The acreage of oilseeds in Ukraine is expected to increase this year, while the acreage of cereals and corn is expected to decrease.Total grain production in 2023 may remain stable with 2022.
News on March 30: Taras Vysotsky, the first Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Ukraine, said that the area under cultivation of oilseeds in Ukraine is expected to increase this year, while the area under cultivation of cereals and corn is expected to decrease.
Overall, the total grain production in 2023 may remain stable compared to 2022.
Vysotsky said that the acreage of sunflower seeds, soybeans and rapeseed will increase by 10%-15% this year. However, unfavorable weather conditions have led to a decline in the sowing area of autumn-sown wheat, and the high logistics costs have led to a decrease in the sowing area of corn by 10% to 12%. Therefore, Ukraine's grain production is expected to decrease this year.
Vysotsky pointed out that farmers are facing some challenges this year, including mines in farmland, financial problems, limited markets and expensive logistics costs. The Government is doing everything possible to solve these problems. It has approved a plan to provide concessionary loans to the agricultural sector, a humanitarian demining sector is in operation, and the Black Sea Food Initiative has also been extended.Alternative logistics has also made progress, and more road and railway checkpoints are being built.
